8 y.o. Nikita needs help fundraising for surgery. He has cerebral palsy that severely impairs his mobility, causing him pain. A St Louis hospital is ready to give Nikita a Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy, which permanently reduces spasticity and greatly improves mobility. Nikita will walk, even outside with an aid! The US$46,245 cost is unaffordable for his mom, so we want to help. Even if we miss the target, any funds raised will be used for Nikita's everyday needs!
Nikita and his twin brother were born prematurely at 27 weeks and suffered many complications. Nikita was born weighing only 800 grams. Sadly, Nikita's twin brother died at the age of 2. Now, the family is only Nikita and his mother, Angela. To help Nikita, Angela has tried all possible treatments available in Ukraine. However, severe spasticity restricts Nikita's movements and does not allow him to walk independently. He lives with pain that no child deserves to suffer.
This project will move Nikita closer to getting SDR surgery at the St Louis Children's Hospital in October. The Doctors expect to see the following improvements after the surgery: spasticity will be permanently reduced; sitting and standing postures will improve; transitions between postures will be easier and faster; balance and level of comfort will improve; independent ambulation will improve indoors, while he will still need crutches or canes to walk outdoors.
Nikita's life will be changed by being able to walk! The operation will improve his quality of life, and he will be able to enjoy his childhood. After everything Nikita has been through, he deserves a chance to be healthy and happy! Helping a child in need is a contribution to the realization of international human rights and democracy. When a government is not providing social welfare, activists must step in to make things happen. And we thank you for doing just that!
