Let's celebrate: They graduated!

Dear friends and supporters,

First, thank you for making this possible for our youth! Your support means a lot to all of us at Jóvenes de Puerto Rico en Riesgo Inc. Thank you!

We want to let you know that with our Caney (Academic Support Center and Safe Space) we continue to provide academic support through supervised homework, tasks, tutoring, individualized support, study plans and educational workshops to at-risk youth students.

In the past months we attended more than 800 students, (166 new students served this quarter April-June in addition to the 712 served in January-March. This data includes participating students ‘Inabos’ and regular students of the school where we have projects (San Juan, Canóvanas, Juncos and Naguabo). Also over 50 teachers participated in our activities and workshops in our Caney centers in Naguabo and Juncos.

We are so happy with the achievements that we have in the more recent months and we want to share it with you!

We are celebrating the students who passed the academic grade! From our center of San Juan, 17 students passed the academic grade (only two students couldn't make it), in Juncos 15 students, Naguabo 22 (two students are making up summer classes to move up a grade), and in Canóvanas we celebrated too that 23 students passed the academic grade (four students are making up summer classes to move up a grade). We are supporting the students that are making up summer classes to pass the academic year.

And, the other great news is that 21 of our youth have graduated from high school! We celebrate a symbolic graduation with all of them and our work team. In the event one of the younger ones said: “Thanks to the Caney staff who gave me constant follow-up, I managed to finish the 4th year and graduate.” Also in the celebration the students shared with us the news that some of them were accepted in Universities from Puerto Rico. This is very important and significant for all of us because some of the youngsters that we support were students that didn't have any aspirations to continue their education.

Let's celebrate that these students have not dropped out of school, stay to study, have improved in academic progress and complete their high school grade. Thank you for all your support!

With gratitude,

Jóvenes de Puerto Rico en Riesgo Team
