Adolescent mothers in rural Rwanda struggle to complete skills training without safe childcare. WfW-Rwanda provides trained caregivers, nutritious refreshments, toys, and safe supervision for babies during training. With their children cared for nearby, young mothers participate fully in their 10-month programme -learning business skills, vocational training, and financial literacy that build sustainable futures for themselves and their children while breaking intergenerational cycles of poverty
Adolescent mothers want to participate in skills training programmes that could lift their families out of poverty - learning tailoring, agriculture, business development, and financial literacy. But without safe, affordable childcare, they cannot participate consistently. They arrive late, leave early, or stop coming entirely - not from lack of motivation but because they have no safe place for their babies. When young mothers cannot complete training, poverty persists across generations.
WfW-Rwanda establishes safe childcare spaces at training venues with toys, floor mats, and hygiene supplies. Trained caregivers provide attentive care and nutritious refreshments. With children cared for nearby, young mothers focus fully on their 10-month skills programme: life skills, vocational training, and financial literacy. With childcare secured, mothers attend consistently, complete training, earn vocational certificates, and launch income-generating activities supporting their families.
When young mothers complete training, they change family trajectories. They earn income from tailoring businesses, farming, or small trade. They save through village groups and invest in their children's futures. Their babies receive quality care and nutrition during critical development months. These mothers become community role models-proving early motherhood is not the end of opportunity. Their children are more likely to pursue education themselves, breaking intergenerational poverty cycles
