GlobalGiving Report October 2024
Hello all,
On behalf of Leeds Women's Aid, thank you so much for your support. Your ongoing commitment will help us continue to provide a wide range of vital services, from immediate assistance through our Helpline to ongoing and intensive support, including emergency refuge accommodation.
We couldn’t do it without you! Thank you.
The New and Improved Leeds Women’s Aid Website is Now Live!
We are delighted to announce the launch of our new and improved website, which you can explore here: www.leedswomensaid.co.uk. The site has undergone a complete refresh, making it more modern and user-friendly, designed to highlight the critical work our teams provide and to offer vital support to those affected by domestic abuse.
Visitors can now access our online chat service to speak directly with our domestic abuse workers, learn more about our comprehensive range of services, gain insights into domestic violence and abuse, and discover how they can get involved in supporting our work.
Thank You to Our Amazing Fundraisers
We continue to be supported by amazing fundraisers such as a supporter who undertook a remarkable 100-mile run, raising an impressive £1,116 for our cause. We are also grateful to the wonderful women at Back to Netball Leeds, who organised a creative "Knickers to Netball" event, highlighting that many women arrive at our refuge with very few personal belongings.
In addition, the generosity of shoppers at Meanwood Waitrose during our Summer Donation Drive resulted in three full trollies of essential items, making a real difference to families in refuge.
Behind the Scenes: A Day in the Life of a Leeds Women’s Aid Housekeeper
Our Housekeeping Team plays a crucial role in preparing our refuges for the families arriving in crisis. Senior Housekeeper Noelle gave us a glimpse into her busy day:
“No two days are the same! We look after both dispersed housing and main refuges, preparing flats for new families, buying groceries, and organising repairs. We make sure each family arrives to a homely space, with food in the cupboards and a teddy bear on the bed for the children.
One of the most rewarding parts of my job is seeing the women’s reactions when they see their flat for the first time. They’re always so touched and ask, ‘Which room is mine?’ And I get to say, ‘All of them!’”
