Thank you for supporting Dignitas International's efforts to provide cervical cancer screening to women in rural Malawi. We are seeing lives changed forever... because of you.
Malawi has the highest prevalence of cervical cancer in the world with an age standardized rate of 75.9 per 100 000. Cervical cancer is six to eight times more common in women with HIV. With your support, we provided cervical cancer screening for HIV positive women at Zomba Central Hospital and further developed cost-effective and sustainable procedures for early diagnosis and treatment of cervical cancer.
Between February 2017 and January 2018, 2735 women had screening for cervical cancer. 61 women were found to have signs suggestive of early cancer and 23 of these received treatment the same day. In order to increase the number of sites offering cervical cancer screening and reach more women, we trained 40 health care workers from four districts to provide VIA screening and purchased 3 cold coagulator machines.
We're proud to share how your gifts are changing lives. We hope you will take the time to read how Dignitas is tackling global health challenges and building resilient and healthy communities.
Thank you for supporting our work and our lifesaving medical and research programs!
