Seeding Feminist Futures with Eco-Dada Farm

What if farming could do more than produce food? What if farming could build community, alleviate poverty, and support a more just world for all?

This is the vision behind Eco-Dada Farm – a new initiative created for and by LGBTQIA+ women in Kenya, led by MADRE’s grassroots partner, Innovators for Climate Action (ICA). Through ecological farming, community ownership, and collective resource sharing, the Eco-Dada Farm will strengthen food security, create livelihoods, nurture climate resilience, and contribute to long-term sustainability for both ICA and the LGBTQIA+ communities our partner supports.

The project responds to urgent challenges facing LGBTQIA+ people in Kenya, who often experience barriers to employment, land ownership, and economic opportunity while also disproportionately bearing the impact of climate breakdown. By creating a community-level agricultural space, Eco-Dada Farm is building pathways to greater economic security and self-determination. The farm will provide fresh food, generate income, and create opportunities for participants to share skills, resources, and support with one another.

ICA says it best: “Eco-Dada is a vision for a future where communities own their development, build wealth collectively, and lead solutions to the challenges they face.” With support from your donations, that vision is already taking root. In ICA’s very first growth trial, 90% of nursery seedlings are sprouting! This exciting milestone signals the farm’s potential to grow into a sustainable source of food, income, and community resilience for years to come.

Thank you for investing in locally led climate solutions and in the leadership of LGBTQIA+ communities who are building a more just and sustainable future.
