Induction
I am excited to report that we have received sponsorships for 88 of the 100 students EFAC accepted for the 2021 school year! 59 of the 100 students are girls and among Kenya's most vulnerable youth. Some are orphans, many are the first to attend high school in their family or even community. All 100 students were inducted into EFAC's program in July and began their first term the following week. The school year is condensed, with students completing 2 of their 3 terms between August and December and their final term in Q1 of 2022. This means the students have very short breaks between their terms.
This is perfect time to provide an update as the 370 secondary students in EFAC's program just returned from their first school break, during which they attended EFAC's Bridge to Success workshop using their new smartphones provided by a very generous donor. These phones allow for EFAC's students to now have a means to access our year-round programming and support lines. These workshops, held between each term. They are facilitated by professional and EFAC peer mentors, who focus on mental health/wellness, helping students adjust to their school environments, and building leadership skills. The workshops also begin the career development process, as early as ninth grade, by asking students to identify their passions and goals in life, so that they can envision a path toward prosperity and success.
Your support provides a path out of poverty for the students fortunate enough to receive a scholarship. Thank you!
With much appreciation,
Andrea Allen
