Help 250+ Vulnerable Elderly in Moldova

Moldova is still one of the poorest countries in Europe, where one in four people of the population of 2,5 Mio live in absolute poverty. For people of retirement age, the number increases to more than one out of three, most of them being women. Eight out of ten elderly in Moldova struggle to pay their bills, but cannot rely on a social service system that protects them. Poverty, bad health condition and loneliness are the main problems the elderly face, often living alone as family members and relatives have emigrated abroad.

Aging can be difficult at times, we all go through it. It is important to remember that even though our physical appearance changes, our spirit does not. Some people in their 70s and 80s are much younger than some people in their 20s or 30s. It all comes down to one thing and that is our outlook on life. Everybody is looking for the fountain of youth, but what they often are unaware of is that the fountain of youth can be found by simply looking within oneself.

Always remember, we are never too old to realize a new goal or dream. Also we must realize, just because someone is older, it does not mean that they have nothing left to offer to society and are incapable of accomplishing great things in their remaining years.

In this report Neoumanist is glad to present the results elderly achieve during the learning activities t the center.

The most important thing we learn is to accept each other, to become better and learn new skills .

During the reported period beneficiaries of the center concentrated on learning English and on “producing “beautiful hand made things.

In September the centre was visited by 11 volunteers from the Netherlans that share with our beneficiaries their time, experience and care. We learn to listen to understand and to act together.

In the same time we learn that kindness has no borders. Thanks to you support we can follow our mission and improved the quality of the seniors life in Moldova.
