Summary

For the last 14 years Integrar has been supporting talented students living in poverty to access higher education. We provide financial aid, constant guidance and mentoring on a personal basis. Argentina has a free public University system, however the social, cultural and economic context of our 150+ students makes it nearly impossible for them to navigate the system without our help. In a city of 15 million people mobility costs add complexity to the problem.

Challenge

More than 1/3 of Argentines are living in poverty. The current level of inequality is exceptionally high and concentrated in the young: 52,3% of children under the age of 14 are living in poverty and only 1/5 of Argentinians of age 25-34 have a higher education degree. Argentina has actually failed to make progress in the last 40 years: the cohort aged 45-54 today has a higher share of higher education graduates than those aged 25-34.

Solution

Integrar provides financial aid to talented students living in poverty that have the intellectual conditions, will and resilience to access higher education opportunities. We rely on mentors to provide constant guidance, assistance and support to the students during their journey. Our Program provides a concrete opportunity to substantially improve their economic and personal well-being through social mobility. Without our help their chances to suceed are minimal.

Long-Term Impact

Integrar aims at fulfilling the promise that once was the core of the Argentinian dream: the land of opportunity where everyone had the chance to make it through a solid and equitative educational system that provided the same opportunities to all. For the last 4 decades that dream was shattered and thousands of young people have been left behind. Integrar aims at bringing that dream back to as many as we can.
