2021: The Year So Far

By Leigh Brown | Director

Tackling resilience.
Tackling resilience.

We thank you for your support of our work.

It has been a busy year - working around the changing lockdown regulations and even launching a distance learning WhattsApp platform that enabled us to keep teaching through the recent Third Wave lockdown. This platform is the start of our online training - which has the potential to enable resilience training at a national level.

To date we have facilitated the following:

  • 103 graduates from the Applied Permaculture bootcamp.
  • 31 graduates through the distancel learning WhattsApp platform.
  • 24 facilitators equipped through the Training of Trainers.
  • 13 Community gardners equipped with growing and planning skills.

We have also kept our focus on local food resilience by supporting three local feeding schemes through:

  • Growing 1,4 tonnes of high nutritional organic vegetables.
  • Baking nearly 7300 naan breads.

In South Africa the national youth unemployment rate now sits at 74,8% and we remain committed to growing resilience skills in our participants and connecting them to work opportunities in the local green economy.

As Permaculture Founder, Bill Mollison said: "While the problems of the world grow increasingly complex, the solutions remain embarrasingly simple."
