Warrick Animal Guardians has the main mission of helping reduce the euthanasia rate at Warrick County Animal Control. One of the many ways we have accomplished that goal is by providing not only preventative medications, surgery for spay and neuter, heartworm treatment but also adoptions! Strays really need this help to not be seen as throw away and considered as a great adoption option!
Almost daily animals come into the local animal control facility that have been lost, dumped or unwanted for some reason. Most of the animals have not be spayed or neutered, have fleas and worms or in some cases even worse! To help these animals become MORE adoptable we usually fund the treatment for diseases and issues on these animals.
Dogs and cats that are healthy can be altered quickly and put up for adoption either thru animal control or thru WAG's program with Petsmart Pet Partners. Dogs like Bowzer or Egypt that are heartworm negative are usually adopted quickly after providing the necessary medical.
However, there are small kittens that need to gain weight and have to go into foster care until they weigh enough and are old enough to be fixed. Kittens like Suzy Q had some medical issues that prevented her from going home right away even though she was adopted. Or the litter of momma cat and her 5 kittens that needed a safe place to go until it was their turn and needed life saving treatment as well.
A back yard breeder that had used her and then threw her away when she wasn’t giving more puppies probably dumped Nana, an older English Bulldog. She was found on a back road in Warrick County. She has mammary tumors and was unspayed. Scared and unwanted WAG came to the rescue and paid more than $850 for her surgeries. She took a couple of weeks to recover, but happily was adopted to a wonderful family.
All of these animals may have had little to no chance without your donations to Warrick Animal Guardians. It is amazing at all the animals we have saved and will continue to save with your support. Thank you very much!
