Last year our local animal control took in almost 900 animals! Mostly cats and dogs, but some livestock as well. Just about every animal entering there has some type of medical need that animal control doesn’t have a budget for. While not all of the animals have major issues or a disease but they still will need basic care like vaccinations, dewormer, and spay/neuter once they go up for adoption.
Warrick Animal Guardians will provide the medical care and preventative medications for all the animals at Warrick County Animal Control. This makes them more adoptable to the public or more likely to be wanted by a rescue. In 2021 Warrick Animal Guardians spent over $20,000 on spay and neuter, $6000 in emergency surgeries and medical issues, $1000 in just Heartworm and Felv/FIV Tests, over $3500 in vaccinations and antibiotics and an excess of $1000 in deworming medications. This does not count E-Collars for after surgery, Flea Prevention, Cat/Dog Food or Cat Litter. Taking care of animals costs a lot of money as you can see. BUT we would not have it any other way. We strive to do the best job we can with the money we get donated to take care of these wonderful animals.
Animals like Ajax, Bahama Momma, Dalton and Mai Tai all were found as strays in Warrick County and never reclaimed by their owner. Each animal was placed up for adoption and Warrick Animal Guardians paid 100% of their medical needs. They were then selected by Warrick Animal Guardians to go up for adoption in our rescue. Ajax and Dalton have both been adopted, Bahama Momma is waiting to get spayed (Paid for by WAG) and then she will be able to go to her new home. Lastly, Mai Tai is looking for his forever home. We sure hope it doesn’t take long!
Because of Warrick Animal Guardians work with Warrick County Animal Control, we have effectively reduced their euthanasia rate and their overall numbers are now over a 90% live release rate. WE ARE ACCOMPLISHING OUR MISSION!
Let us know how you think we are doing in your next donation!!! Together we can make 2022 even better!
