Homeless pets need your help with medical care!

Warrick Animal Guardians has paid for hundreds of vaccines that are given in hopes to prevent deadly diseases to the animals entering Warrick County Animal Control.  One disease in particular called Parvovirus or Parvo for short is a highly contagious virus. It causes an infectious gastrointestinal illness in puppies and young dogs, and without treatment is often fatal. However, with a proper and complete vaccination protocol Parvo is a preventable disease.  

The dogs most at risk for Parvo are young dogs between six weeks and six months of age.  Normally these are the ages of the dogs that are unvaccinated or not completely vaccinated yet. Of course these are also the exact ages of dogs most often surrendered to animal controls, shelters and rescues.  Making it of the utmost importance for a good vaccine program!   Without Warrick Animal Guardians it would be impossible to make the purchase of these important preventative vaccinations. Sadly, the reality is that more than likely many puppies and young dogs would lose their lives to this deadly disease. Luckily we have Warrick Animal Guardians!

This year Warrick County Animal Control had several cases of Parvo in young dogs and puppies that had never been given vaccines.  Thankfully we had generous donations to get them to the veterinarian to start life saving treatment. However, it is very costly to treat each pet for Parvo, as they usually require hospitalization, IV fluids and lots of medications.  We prefer to prevent the suffering of this disease by the poor puppies and young dogs by making sure we can continue to give the proper immunizations BEFORE something bad happens.  

I have included the pictures of three of the dogs that were saved from Parvo. We hope that we can continue to educate pet owners of the importance of getting their pets vaccinations including Parvovirus vaccinations to prevent them from ever having to know the potential deadly disease!
