Yeah, so, we haven’t started this project yet, for a few reasons.
One is because we’re nowhere near our fundraising goal. However, a donor from Brooklyn is intrigued, and would prefer it run parallel with the academic calendar, so there’s a decent chance we’ll kick this off later next month.
The second reason we don’t think this project is getting much traction is because there still seems to be a strong focus on humanitarian relief, whereas longer term investments like education or development might not resonate for another year or two…
And the third, and most significant reason we put this project on hold, is because we keep scaling up our food for refugees project (see link below).
Back when we conceptualized this project - construction skills for refugees while they wait it out in Moldova - we were distributing about 2-3 metric tons of food per week. These days we’re sourcing (from local farmers and suppliers) about 20 tons per week (50,000 lbs), 75% of which is fresh fruit and vegetables, hand packing family parcels, then delivering around the country and handing directly to refugees and their Moldovan host families.
Not only that, in the next month we plan to double those numbers, and maintain that volume until the end of the year.
It’s a lot of work, we are busy little bees.
