Elementary school Josif Pancic in a small mining town of Baljevac, in Central Serbia is attended by 210 pupils. The school is very old and In the worst condition are toilets throughout the building that need urgent reconstruction, because they are below minimum standards of use. It is necessary to replace toilets, tiles, sinks, lavatories, and painting. It is necessary to raise funds in a short term so that the school would be reconstructed before the beginning of the school year September 1.
The school in Baljevac does not fullfill basic sanitary standards when it comes to the toilets. 120 children do not have elementary and decent conditions for their education and schooling as every child in the world deserves. Providing elementary conditions in schools in Serbia was one of the goal of the project One in a Million that Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation initiated two years ago. So far, through this project it was reconstructed and equipped 13 elementary schools in Serbia.
Providing funds for reconstruction and equipment of toilets will be the precondition to pleasant and decent stay of children in the school. Having that, the children will be motivated to learn more and to achieve even better results as children in modern schools do.
The reconstructed school in Baljevac will bring benefit not only to the pupils who attend the school at the moment, but will stay for the next generations of the children. The renovated and nice school will also keep people not moving from the small mining town Baljevac to bigger cities, who in addition have more opportunities for education than small town. Almost 1000 people, including children and their parents will directly benefit from the reconstruction of the school.
