Dear donors and supporters,
We are happy to confirm that, as previously announced, this year's prize was given to two rural schools located next to Lake Tota, in relation to The Rights of Wetlands as a story been told in Kamishibai.
The 1st prize was delivered to the school of Tota's village, with their story linked to their imaginary lagoon in which people and nature were interacting whilst sharing the (8+1) wetland's rights. The runner up was the school of the Guáquira's village, in turn with their enchanting tale related to their own imaninary lake, also having plenty of creativity to explain the topic.
The jury said it was very dificult for them to decide, with only 2 points of difference in their valuation marks. The jury was constituted by a representative from the Municipality of Tota, a representative of the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and a representative of the Finca San Pedro Nature Reserve from Sogamoso.
The whole process took a preparation time of nearly three months for the schools and us to interact about the topic and technique for story-telling (kamishibai), and their moment of truth to present it was framed within the 5th Muyso Festival held at Xieti Nature Reserve next to Lake Tota.
Thank you all for your support, this 3rd Múcura Award to prize rural kids in their effort to conserve wetlands, was a succesful event well enriched with your donations.
With gratitude,
Felipe Velasco
