This is an urgent call to keep our doors open and the music flowing at Dhow Countries Music Academy, Zanzibar's one and only music school in historic Stone Town. The DCMA faces the most critical moment in its 17-year history. We need to raise $70,000 in 2020 to sustain our award-winning music programs, classes and concerts. Over 80 dedicated students and 19 teachers now depend on your support. Without you, the soulful sounds that make these islands sing may cease.
We're at a critical crossroads: The DCMA is a nongovernmental organization primarily supported by private donors and foundations. Yet, 70% of our students can not afford basic tuition. We do not have enough funds to cover the many costs needed to run the academy. We anticipate a multi-year collaboration soon, but currently face a gap in funds: This is why your support at this moment is critical, to save the future of Zanzibari culture and heritage through music.
Your contribution will directly impact 80 students, 19 teachers and 29 staff. Help us keep the lights on, rent paid, instruments tuned and music flowing through the halls of our historic building, as we continue to provide our high-quality certificate and diploma programs as well as live concerts and community workshops. You are the bridge. It's not just about keeping our doors open, it's about investing in Zanzibar's rich cultural heritage and the power of music to unite and transform lives.
There's no doubt: Music unites communities, bridges cultures and inspires connection: DCMA students and teachers stand at the forefront of Zanzibari musical excellence. Promoting Zanzibari culture and heritage through music is at the heart of what we do, with over 120 live performances each year. Music empowers and it also employs. We teach in remote villages and work with students with disabilities. Your investment in DCMA is a promise to Zanzibar's future musicians and cultural gatekeepers.
