Poverty affects schooling of 7 Million SA girls who miss up to 40 days a year of school because they cannot afford sanitary pads. There are many expensive solutions, the simplest and cheapest one of all is to distribute packets of pads, 12 at a time, which will see them through the year of school. We aim to raise money to do just that so that those girls wont be embarrassed at school. We need your help, the more we manage to buy, the more girls we can help
Millions of poverty stricken girls in SA cannot afford food, never mind sanitary protection. This is humiliating (Stained clothes )and poses a health risk as undesirable alternatives are used.. Girls miss up to 40 days a year resulting in their education unequal to boy peers. As it is almost half of poor children drop out in grade 10 anyway, this situation is intolerable. Those girls forfeit their future educational prospects, repeating the cycle of poverty
A yearly hand out to girls which will enable them to attend school every day Handing out packets of sanitary towels eliminates a huge cause of teasing and humiliation for thousands/millions of teenage girls growing up in dire poverty Pads are hygienic, other options for these girls involve using sand or washing old clothing - many live in areas where there may not be running water.. Offering girls equal education and equal future academic prospects as the boys.
This campaign is not just about a free hand out, it goes towards solving an issue which is associated with dire poverty and the devastating spin offs thereof. Girls attending school, present every day will change the futures of the thousands of recipients in January 2017, the start of the new school year here in SA. Life is hard enough living in informal settlements in rudimentary housing, girls are so much more vulnerable than boys, periods should not exacerbate this.
