Donors will contribute to buying a new van for Yoga&Sport with Refugees. Indeed, our van is vital for allowing students to get to the gym, collection of necessary supplies and team bonding experiences for all our community. Our van has served us well to date, but unfortunately its life expectancy is shortening Every month our van travels about 320km. We have decided to challenge ourselves to run 320km, in a relay race around the island - starting Thursday morning to Friday afternoon non stop.
Our van has been a vital asset to allow us to offer activities to the community, but unfortunately it is nearing the end of its life, and we need to prepare to be able to purchase a new one. Providing team bonding activities is a highly valued experience for our coaches. We wouldn't be able to offer any of this without the van, the option of a lift increases participant numbers, especially for female students who we provide lifts for everyday.
The idea is to create a fundraiser that is a challenging Relay Race, running 320km day & night around the island of Lesvos. We will engage with the community in Lesvos, build camaraderie amongst our gym students and volunteers and raise vital funds for the operation of the van to allow us to offer activities. The hope is that this challenge will impress and entice potential donors to give to our cause. Our van goes 320 km per month for us, now we want to go 320 km for it!
On the 2 days of the event, a sense of community will be felt. This could potentially become an annual event that students and volunteers can look forward to. Volunteers who have spent time on the island may feel inspired to donate or fundraise further in their own community for us, as they see their team striving to run this distance. An established, regular fundraiser for YSR would allow the project to continue to provide activities at its important community hub for displaced people.
