Move For Hunger is a national non-profit organization that has created a sustainable way to reduce food waste and fight hunger. We have mobilized the leaders of moving, relocation, and multi-family industries to provide their customers, clients, and residents with the opportunity to donate their food when they move. Members of Move For Hunger also organize community food drives, participate in awareness campaigns, and create employee engagement programs.
Pre-Covid, more than 37 million Americans, including 13 million children, rely on emergency food assistance. Each year approximately 40 million Americans relocate. When people move, they throw away "stuff." Unfortunately, a lot of this "stuff" is food that could be delivered to a family in need rather than thrown away. By teaming up with moving companies, multi family communites and relocation professionals across the country, Move For Hunger provides relief for hungry Americans in need.
We have created a national network of relocation, transportation & moving companies working to alleviate hunger in their local communities. For many food banks/pantries, transportation of food is a prohibitive expense that often means losing out on an opportunity for food rescue/meals. By building a network of 1,000+ transportation partners & 1,500 apartment partners Move For Hunger helps to keep food banks' shelves fully stocked year-round and engages communities in hunger awareness initiative
We currently work with over 1000 moving companies & 1500 apartment communities across the United States & Canada. We have collected more than 21 million pounds of food (more than 17+ million meals) since our inception in 2009. This project will enable us to continue to expand our network of movers, relocation companies & multi family properties across North America and allow us to collect over 3,000,000+ lbs of food annually.
