Empowering Change: Serving Hope

By Julia Matthew | Managing Director

Dear Sponsor,

Greetings from El Shaddai and a warm welcome to our latest report on Feeding Initiative.

In a world filled with abundance, it is disheartening to witness the stark contrast of poverty and hunger that plague millions of people. The issue of feeding the poor is not only a matter of basic human rights but also a reflection of our collective responsibility as a society.

Hunger is a persistent crisis affecting millions worldwide, devastating consequences for individuals, families, and communities.

We at El Shaddai firmly believe that no child or individual should go to bed hungry and with this aim, we started free food distribution programmes across the state of Goa.

We offer one meal per day to 700 people under the mid-day meal Project and 700 packed meals under the “Manna Meals Project” to individuals from poor socio-economic backgrounds. Every day our community workers distribute nutritious and hot home-cooked meals, which are neatly packed in parcels. Till date we have distributed 20,00,43,071 meals.

We also started the grocery distribution kits for underprivileged families. Our outreach workers reach out to the people from the slum and other poverty-stricken areas and hand out these ration kits to them.

These feeding initiatives have proved very beneficial in curbing malnutrition in children. Feeding the poor is not just a matter of providing sustenance; it is an act of compassion, justice, and empowerment.

We would like to share a story of a child who was enrolled in one of our shelters. Her name is Lily (name changed). She lived with her family in a slum. The family had recently migrated from Karnataka in search of better employment opportunities. Lily did not look her age compared to other children. She was frail, there was no colour in her cheeks, no smile on her face. She often went hungry to bed.

One day as she was selling plastic bags at the market area, she was spotted by one of our outreach workers. They went with her to her house and were saddened by her plight. They requested the parents to send their child and their other children to our shelter where they will be provided food and education. This little girl is now beyond recognition. It’s been just two months and we can already see the change. She is no longer malnourished and is full of life and hope for the future.

There are many such children and with your help and support we want to keep reaching out to them.

By addressing the underlying causes of poverty, empowering communities, reducing food waste, fostering collaborative partnerships, and promoting education and advocacy, we can create a world where everyone has access to nutritious food.

We deeply appreciate your trust in our organization and the work we do.

Your contribution has played a pivotal role in helping us achieve our mission and make a positive impact in our community. Without your unwavering support, none of this would have been possible.

Together, let us nourish hope and work towards a future free from hunger, where no one is left behind.

Thanking you

Sincerely,

El Shaddai Charitable Trust
