Dear Friend,
We bring to you our latest report on happenings with our Food Relief Services.
The number of people going hungry and suffering from food insecurity had been gradually rising since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The COVID-19 crisis has pushed those rising rates even higher and has also exacerbated all forms of malnutrition, particularly in children.
The El Shaddai team are ensuring that each day 700 people don’t need to sleep on an empty stomach. With food projects Like Manna “ Meals on Wheel’ people are now able to eat hot, delicious home-cooked nutritious meals consisting of rice, Dal, mixed vegetable curry, and eggs.
There is a saying “Life is not the same for all’ and this unfortunately proved to be true in the life of Ramesh (name changed).
He is a daily wage laborer who lives in the slum areas of Margao a city based in the suburbs. He lives with his wife and six children in a broken dilapidated house. The monsoon seasons have begun and while it’s a boon to many it’s a big problem for him as now he does not have a fixed job. Each day he waits at the bus stations and the railway stations hoping someone will give him work but his efforts went in vain. Every day was not just for him but his entire family who were remaining hungry.
But all this was going to change as luck would have it he was approached by our El Shaddai outreach workers who brought food for this family and also told them that every day they would do so and now he and his family will never have to go to bed hungry.
Our team of Outreach workers cover areas in North and South Goa like Railway stations, slum areas, footpaths and bus stations where they meet migrant labourers and unemployed people.
To Curb Malnutrition we have another food project called the midday meal Project which caters to feeding 500 children each day. They are fed at our daycare shelters, and community centres and food tiffins are also distributed to children from the slums.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the wonderful Donors who have joined hands in making this venture possible and bringing smiles to the faces of these people and children.
With best regards
El Shaddai family!
