Every day, explosions shake cities and villages across Ukraine. Since the start of the full-scale war, Ukrainian media have reported more than 19,000 incidents involving explosions and nearly 50,000 artillery-related threats. These powerful blast waves damage hearing, leaving thousands with lasting injuries. This project equips hospitals with modern tools, trains specialists, and improves access to treatment and rehabilitation - helping war survivors hear again and rebuild their lives.
More than 50,000 people in Ukraine are living with acoustic trauma and require ear surgery, including 7,500 patients with severe injuries needing complex surgical treatment. Yet, due to critical shortages of specialised equipment and trained otosurgeons, national capacity allows for only around 1,000 such surgeries per year. Under current conditions, most patients will never receive the care they need and risk permanent hearing loss.
Help us strengthen Ukraine's ability to treat explosion-related hearing injuries by equipping key hospitals with diagnostic and surgical tools for early detection and complex ear surgeries. In partnership with Ukraine's Institute of Otolaryngology, we provide specialist training nationwide so more patients can access quality care close to home. We also support those who have lost hearing through recovery and adaptation.
Better diagnostics: Modern equipment enables earlier, more accurate detection of explosion-related hearing injuries nationwide. Safer surgeries: New tools support more precise, less traumatic operations and better outcomes. More specialists: Training will expand the number of expert surgeons from 6 to 25 in four years. Greater access: More patients will receive timely care close to home, increasing recoveries from 1,000+ to 1,500+ annually.
