After the eruption of Nyiragongo volcano in the DR of Congo, the inhabitants of the region need urgent help. The lava began to flow towards the city of Goma 20 kilometers to the south, it had flowed into the city, destroying hundreds of homes. Tens of thousands of people have been displaced. At least 31 people have died and 30,000 were forced to flee their homes. They flee with bare belongings. We have to help the children and deliver food and shelter for the victims.
On Saturday 22 May the eruption of the Volcano Nyiragongo, situated in the north of the city of Goma in North Kivu province commenced. Effusive eruption forced the people to self-evacuating and crossing the border to Rwanda. More than 170 children are feared to be missing. At least 25,000 were displaced in Sake, 25 km north-west of Goma. The lava is flowing underground. It can break the ground and burn out every moment. We have to take care of the victims.
The project will help the victims to survive, cure they wounds, give them basic medical help, deliver food and basic products for them and help to rebuild their houses. In Goma and in Rwanda the pallottine missionaries live who are helping the people and take care of them. We have to gather money to support them to save the people's lives, to help children find their parents and to recover after the disaster.
In long-term the victims will come back to their places and rebuilt their modest houses, the refugees who had escaped to Rwanda will be able to come back to their country.
