Through the life or this project we have looked at various Charities delivering services to the Homeless in our area. We have distributed money to charities to help the situation but one Charity has stood out above all others as delivering services, providing food and shelter. They have reduced the rough sleepers in our area by over 60% in the last year.

We recently visited Harp and witnessed a variety of projects in operation and were impressed with the sustainability of their work coupled with fantastic dedication and support in helping rebuilding lives of their clients.

Through HARP's work with local homeless people, we have come to understand that trauma is often at the root of a person's homelessness story. This is backed up by academic studies, with one study suggesting that 85% of those in touch with criminal justice, substance misuse and homelessness services have experienced trauma as children (Lankelly Chase Foundation, 2015). As part of HARP's continued development, striving to provide the best and most effective service for homeless people in Southend, we plan to adopt Trauma Informed Care (TIC), an emerging good practice in the sector, into our work, and we hope to use the Thorpe Bay Rotary Club donation towards this adoption.  We believe this will have a true long-lasting effect on our work, and could help us to work more effectively with very complex service users who often struggle to progress positively through existing services.

Thorpe Bay Rotary will follow the progress of this latest project and hope to continue to support this fantastic success story and continue reducing rough sleepers in our area.
