This project aims at improving computer literacy among community members of Kibaha District in Pwani (Tanzania), with a total Population of 70,209 (Males 34,515 and females 35,694) in accordance to National Population and Housing Census (2012) report. Majority of this population has never touched the computer's keyboard. The project targets to provide basic knowledge of computer and internet to about 15,000 students of primary and secondary schools to build a "no-poverty generation" in the area.
Data show that many schools' children living along Kibaha have never touched the computer's keyboard throughout their lifetime because of very few public primary and secondary schools with poor infrastructures that cannot support computer education nor internet services. In addition, schools' children have to travel far away distances on foot to avail primary and /or secondary education in these few facilities. Over 15,000 children come from poverty stricken families living below 1 US $ a day.
PATNA is currently providing basic computer skills to about 27 vulnerable children alongside Kibaha (Pwani Region - Tanzania). The plan for establishing a computer library and internet services in the proposed project will bridge the existing gap of lack of computer facilities. Basic computer trainings will improve computer knowledge among children, youths, women etc. while the internet services will benefit the whole community including smallholder farmers in securing markets of their products.
The project will provide basic computer skills to about 5,000 school children (3 Primary Schools & 1 Secondary School in Maili Moja Ward-Kibaha). Over 150 women and youths will also be trained on the same. A mobilization campaign will be held to sensitize the community to contribute towards supporting our efforts for sustainable development. Later on the project will be scaled-up to benefit other 10,000 students from neighboring administrative wards with the same challenge of computer illiteracy
