Majority of the earthquake affected schools in Nepal do not have adequate facilities and a conducive environment which has been affecting the learning in the students. The students have to sit on the floor the whole day. Shanti Education Initiative Nepal envisions the classroom with multi-piece tables, teachers creating classrooms in new ways, organizing spaces for learning and students accessing the children's literature. It creates a learning opportunity and increases students' enrollment.
Imagine a classroom where students have to sit whole day on floor with the thin tarpaulin sheet, that affected students and have a running nose and respiratory problems. The dropout rate is increasing due to the traditional approach, teacher as lecturer positioned at the front of the classroom and delivering knowledge to students in a one-sided pedagogical transaction. Literally, there is no space for extra works & no reading corner & children literature.
We'll provide the needed child friendly tables and chairs and will manage a reading corner in each of the classes. An orientation to the teachers will be given training for the optimum use of teaching materials and space in the room. The students and teachers will have enough space for group activities and other extra works. It will create a teaching and learning environment in the classroom. The students will have access to the books and will develop a reading habit.
A reading culture will be developed among the students which will be transferred to generations. The teachers and the students will be creative and problem solving with the use of multi pieces of tables for group activities. The project will enhance the teaching skill of the teachers. The drop-out rates and the health issues will minimize. This project will benefit 150 students.
