In 2023 Seacology begaun our Suyac Island project. Planned in classic Seacology fasion, this project's environmental component was the permanent conservation of 37 acres of mangroves and protection of habitat of endangered bat. In return Seacology sponsored repairs to the local watchtower and ranger station in order to support locally managed nature-based tourism.
The project progressed smoothly until Typhoon Tino hit in 2025. The watch tower and boardwalk were damaged, needing urgent repairs. Seacology, and supporters like you, stepped up then to help the islanders recover from this natural event.
In our last update, March 2026, the pier had been repaired while boardwalk repairs were ongoing. Since then, not only has the boardwalk completed repairs (using high quality materials for future storms) but they also rebuilt five sets of stairs, which allow access at different levels, and repaired the dock area used for passengers and cargo.
Tourism and local business have resumed, and thanks to supporters like you, the people of Suyac Island are once again able to protect and share their special slide of the world.
