In December we had a successful campaign to raise $5000, to be able to continue our work giving technical asistance to farmers in our area. By February we were able to get 38 local farmers to commit over 1955 hectareas (4800 acres) to conservation. This is actually DOUBLE the amount we achieved last year! These families will recieve over $116,000 as environmental payment (PES) from the Costa Rican Government.
Also, up to today, as projects from 2016, 16 families are planning to plant over 97,000 more trees with assistance from ASIREA. Our foresters, Jose, Roberto and Patricia, visit farmers everyday to offer technical assistance and support to these families, thanks to your contributions which are vital to our work.
During these following months, we will continue to promote reforestation for local people, and to build our dream of a Forestry Culture Center, where we hope to relocate our offices, tree nursery and install a solar wood kiln.
At present we are trying to rebuild our nursery which has been damaged by violent rains and winds caused by climate change which is affecting Costa Rica especially, because of its vulnerable location between two oceans.
