Farmers on the Caribbean Coast are becoming succesful for the first time in their reforestation efforts thanks to technical asistance and training offered by ASIREA. Without this support, most farmers prefer to invest in other productive activities that cause deforestation and degadation of the tropical forest. Help us to help farmers improve their income while reforesting the world.
Land being used for extensive agriculture is the main cause of forest degradation and deforestation in the tropical forests of Costa Rica. As is well known, the local farmers are the ones that have the least income from the rural production, meaning that their socioeconomic conditions are not improving, and in most cases are decreasing. ASIREA has identified the best way to help local producers improve their socioeconomic conditions while the tropical forests are protected.
Through ASIREA's support to local producers in the rural areas of the Caribbean slope of Costa Rica, they receive technical assistance to reforest their farms, have access to government incentive funds to do this and improve their quality of life. This simple but very effective strategy addresses both issues; socioeconomic and environmental, and with a very concrete result, improves the living conditions of people while reforesting the tropical lands of Costa Rica's Caribbean zone.
ASIREA has been doing this for more than 25 years. With the support of donors, ASIREA will continue working with local producers to promote reforestation technical assistance and the financial support of the government. In the long term, many local positive experiences in reforestation will generate a snowball effect attracting more and more farmers who want to participate in reforestation projects and their economical and environmental benefits.
