Approximately every 4 minutes one person in the United States is diagnosed with a blood cancer. An estimated combined total of 140,310 people in the US are expected to be diagnosed with leukemia, lymphoma or myeloma in 2011. An estimated 1,012,533 people in the US are living with, or are in remission from a blood cancer. Approximately every 10 minutes, someone in the US dies from a blood cancer. This statistic represents nearly 145 people each day or more than six people every hour.
Provide resources to fund lifesaving research and services for patients and their families.
To date, LLS has invested more than $814 million in research aimed at helping all blood cancer patients live better, longer lives. We will continue to support research through our innovative and integrated funding programs, until every patient has a safe and effective therapy. In fiscal year 2011, LLS supported research in the U.S., Canada, and 10 other countries with a total research disbursement of more than $76 million.
