2016 Exchange Programs -
The return exchange of eight Richmond high school students to Ishinomaki during their Kawabiraki Festival this summer has been planned for late July/early August. We would like to thank ANA for continuing to support our exchanges with discount trip tickets. The students will be hosted in ishinomaki by families who sent students to Richmond last year as well as being able to stay at the Kosyakuji ( http://www.kosyakuji.com/kosyaku/) temple where they will have the opportunity to learn some about the practice of Zen.
The second year of the TOMODACHI Randolph Macon College (RMC) –Ishinomaki Senshu University (ISU) Research Exchange begins with the RMC students and faculty visit to Ishinomaki and other areas of Japan in early July. Their research projects concerning the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami will take place over a ten week period this summer. The ISU students and faculty will visit RMC in mid-September and experience American college life as well as share their research results.
Ishinomaki Projects Update -
We held a Maguro tuna cooking show in Ishinomaki. We started the event by offering a prayer for the victims of the Kumamoto Earthquake which had occurred the week before. Many people made donations. It was delicious and fun. Thank you very much to Celia’s Circle for working with us on this project!
Taylor Anderson Cobaltore Soccer Class continues to be very popular. More and more kindergartens apply for this class, which is almost out of the instructors' capacity! Taylor Anderson Memorial Fund supports Colaltore Onagawa Soccer class for daycares and kindergartens in Ishinomaki and Onagawa. Soccer classes are held every week. There are many more pictures of happy soccer students on our Facebook page!
BigUp Ishinomaki which TAMF supports held the 2nd Kid's dinner event. Some children are lonely in the evening at home. They enjoyed cooking Okonomiyaki and playing outside with volunteers from Ishinomaki Senshu University.
TAMF supports another awesome volunteer organization for kids in Ishinomaki, Kodomo Company. Young mothers enjoyed activities at the small community space in this neighborhood playground in the Watanoha area of Ishinomaki. Kids discuss how they can develop their field, where lots of rubble piled up 5 years ago. Mr. Endo made a nice wood deck!
TAMF supports KOKORO SMILE PROJECT's shopping projects. Ogatsu elementary has 19 students in total from 1st to 6th grades. This is one of the most heavily-damaged area in Ishinomaki. Kids enjoy learning how to shop with dummy coins at a temporary school building.
Thank you to Kyoko of E-Kids and Naomi of ISU for accompanying the American woman in the picture below who came from Qatar to donate books to the Kazuma ES Taylor Bunko!
