In Mexico, we have a very low rate of citizen participation to solve community problems. Comunalia aims to involve the community in the identification and solution of local problems through the work of community foundations. This project will benefit 17 community foundations, their 650 allies, and more than 500,000 beneficiaries. Together with community foundations, we actively promote community philanthropy for long-term solutions.
Strict fiscal and legal regulation and a lack of access of mexican community foundations to unrestricted resources for capacity building. Community foundations are an important vehicle for citizen participation and community involvement at the local stage. Without a strengthened community foundation, all of the organizations supported by them, as well as the communities that benefit from their work, have less possibilities of positively impacting the ecosystem.
Comunalia aims to provide access to financial resources and strengthen the capacities of community foundations to help them involve the community in the identification and solution of local problems. This project will benefit 17 community foundations, their 650 allies, and more than 500,000 beneficiaries on the ground.
Together with community foundations, we actively promote community-led solutions to local problems, which facilitates long-term solutions. Throughout these years we have witnessed the successful appropriation of community projects due to the participation of different stakeholders. Also, the networks and alliances built across the process provide a solid platform to maintain solutions in the long term.
