About 1000 women are killed in Pakistan every year in the name of so-called honor. Last year in December a family (couple & 3 children) was axed to death over a love marriage that happened 28 years ago in Pakistan. It is due to the misunderstanding that Law and Islam both are in favor of such atrocities. Such brutal acts can be stopped through the intervention of civil society & religious leaders by educating people especially women about their basic rights and laws against such brutal crimes.
Of the 1000 women killed in the name of so-called honor almost half of it belong to KPK province. Thats 1/10th of the whole world's killing from this province only. It is important that women know their rights and have a sound knowledge of national and religions laws in order to protect themselves. According to a study done by an NGO in Pakistan on honor killing 95% of the women killed were uneducated or were not aware of laws and their basic rights, which this awareness program intends to do.
An awareness team consist of male and female field officers will be sent to villages where they would organize awareness sessions against honor killings with the help of the influential people and religious leaders of the villages. Separate sessions for men and women will be held where information against honor killings will be provided through references from religious literature and nations humanitarian acts. Information leaflets against honor killings shall also be distributed for impact.
95 % of the victims of honor killings are women. Therefore their awareness about their basic human rights would ultimately define their future. Women are kept deprived and uneducated to be used as slaves and then discarded in the name of so called honor whenever the men want them. At the end of completing this project, more than 50000 men and women will get awareness who would further spread this message to their generations. Your funding could help save hundreds of lives every year. Thank you
