First of all, THANK YOU for supporting our mission and caring about the animals in Peru!
Thanks to your donations on this platform we were able to neuter/spay 291 animals in different campaigns organized the last two months in Lima, Piura, and Arequipa in Peru.
In Lima we continued our efforts in different areas such as San Juan de Miraflores, a very poor and huge area with a high overpopulation of animals. Some of our neuter/spay campaigns were at the top of mountains where the poorest people live and asked for help to neuter the stray animals in their neighborhoods.
Additionally, we expanded our TNR (Trap-Neuter-Release) program focused on feral cats. We’ve had 8 campaigns and neutered/spayed a total of 111 feral cats with your donations. We will continue working on expanding this program that is so vital to control the overpopulation of stray cats.
We also expanded to Majes, Arequipa (south of Peru) and Piura (North of Peru) where we neutered/spayed 67 stray animals in Oct-Nov. This is very important because some regions in Peru recently had an outbreak of rabies due to the overpopulation of stray animals and the lack of vaccination. The government has restarted vaccination efforts, and vaccinated all of the animals we were able to spay and neuter.
Long-term impact: Different associations calculate the number of puppies and kittens that one female's offspring can produce. These calculations vary but even taking the most conservative one we are excited to report that with your donations so far we have prevented over 1.2M animals from being born and suffering on the streets in the next 7 years.
Thanks to donors like you we have been able to neuter/spay over 6300 animals to date: strays, rescues from shelters and pets from low-income families who wouldn’t have been able to afford the surgery otherwise. YOU are making a difference and we can’t thank you enough.
Thank you so much for your support. The Stray Animal Project team, volunteers, and the stray animals in Peru are thankful for you
