The COVID-19 pandemic has adversely affected the primary education of children since the Government shutdown and due to the implementation of safety measures, primary schools have not reopened. As an alternative, FFLV has come up with an idea of home schools for small kids till 5th grade for whom online classes would have been too difficult if not impossible. Not only can we provide these students with the essential learning but can also reconnect with them and know they are safe and well.
The COVID-19 pandemic has adversely affected the primary education of children since the shutdown of Primary schools. The students of FFLV come from a very poor background. Their household income can merely satisfy their basic needs and it's a big challenge for them to afford a smart phone for the online classes. Additionally, it's a bit difficult for small kids to study and understand through online mechanism.
We have more than 400 students from 1st to 5th grade and more than 35 teachers. Many more teaching locations are being organized every week. Each teacher is allotted a group of around 15 students to teach and monitor by following all the precautionary measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19. Classes are held 6 days a week for around 3 hours a day. FFLV is providing each and every possible facility to students such as stationery material, masks, sanitizers, boards, mats, breakfast etc.
Currently, FFLV village classes are running in 11 different locations at nearby villages, which are being conducted by FFLV senior grade girls playing a role as teachers. These girls are getting an opportunity to develop their teaching skills and become financially independent. In the long run village classroom project is a school of hope for the children to continue their education without missing out on their studies for one full year which might create an imbalance in their life.
