Last month, Liz McGovern, WEEMA's founding director, and Teddy Belachew, WEEMA's country director, had a delightful lunch with all 6 of WEEMA's midwife scholars. They dined at Yeshi Buna located right in the heart of Addis Ababa (which is also Liz's favorite restaurant in Ethiopia in case you find yourself there anytime in the near future.) Each student is so happy with her studies and is thriving all around. They send much love and gratitude to YOU, our GlobalGiving donors who support their education.
Selam and Mihret are already in their second year and have assited with 3 vaginal deliveries so far. They loved it!! In their 4 years of training, they will graduate with over 60 deliveries under their belt.
In other news, Farley Sawyer, GlobalGiving's East Africa's representative, visited the Hamlin College of Midwives and our WEEMA students in October. She reports that she was quite impressed with the students' decication and maturity as well as the quality of the education provided at Hamlin.
Now is holiday giving season! We are still $2,401 short of our $8000 goal to provide full scholarships to Mihret and Selam. Please consider giving the gift of life- Support these students as they prepare for their careers as midwives. Ninety percent of maternal deaths are preventable. Selam and Mihret will save lives!
