This disaster not only destroyed our lodge but also put the livelihoods of our dedicated staff & the crucial conservation efforts of the Makhungutsha mountain ecosystem at risk. Help us raise funds to support our staff & continue our conservation work. Please join us in restoring a sanctuary that conserves this heritage, employs a dedicated team & enriches the lives of all who visit.

Challenge

A wildfire has tragically destroyed Wide Horizons Retreat, an ecotourism lodge in Eswatini. This disaster jeopardizes the livelihoods of our staff members & our conservation efforts in the Makhungutsha mountain ecosystem, which relied on ecotourism revenue from the lodge. We urgently need funds to support our staff, continue our conservation work, and restore the lodge. Our vision includes a sustainable ecolodge that conserves the Makhungutsha ecosystem & enriches the lives of all who visit.

Solution

With the lodge burnt, we face an uncertain future. We're reaching out to you, our valued community, to help us raise funds to support our staff & mission. Your support will provide immediate financial assistance to our 11 staff members & their 42 dependents who have lost their source of income. It will sustain ongoing conservation activities to protect the Makhungutsha mountain ecosystem. It will begin the journey of re-equipping Wide Horizons to become a thriving sustainable lodge once again.

Long-Term Impact

Wide Horizons has long been a sanctuary for wildlife and example of sustainable tourism. Our mission has always been to conserve the unique ecosystem of the Makhungutsha mountains & the heritage of this site while providing meaningful employment to our community. Your support, no matter how small, will be instrumental in helping us rise from the ashes & continue our mission. Together we can restore this treasured, soulful place that fosters a love for nature, the planet & sustainability
