Help Save Lives in Pakistan

A resident of Mehran Town in Karachi, Pakistan, Sunny was told that his pregnant wife was in critical condition and needed to be rushed to the hospital immediately. The doctor told him she would need oxygen on the way to the hospital. Sunny panicked. Most ambulances in his area did not have proper medical equipment. He didn’t know how his wife would make it to the hospital without any harm to her or the child.

His brother then suggested calling Aman Ambulance, stating that it is fully equipped with medical facilities. There was heavy traffic on the roads of Karachi, so rather than keeping them waiting in a state of panic, Aman Foundation sent a motorbike with a paramedic and medical equipment called Rapid Response Unit (RRU) to facilitate Sunny’s wife. Within minutes of the arrival of the RRU, the ambulance arrived.

“The ambulance was nothing short of a hospital. It included all the medical equipment and staff required to take proper care of a patient. And yet, I was worried sick. There was too much traffic on the road and the ambulance driver was doing his best to get through. The paramedic sitting beside me saw the anxiety on my face and asked me to go sit up front. I didn’t know what to think or say. All I could do was pray. I wasn’t sure if we would be able to reach the hospital in time… but Aman Ambulance was nothing short of a hospital for me.”

They were short on time and his wife’s condition was deteriorating, so the baby had to be delivered in the ambulance. The doctor congratulated Sunny on the birth of his daughter, Susanne.

Up till now, over 75 babies have been delivered in Aman Ambulances. In the command and control centre, EMD Fakhir received a call about an unconscious patient. EMD Fakhir drew from his experience and his knowledge and followed the MPDs in the proper manner and sequence. He advised the attendant to check on the breathing of the patient, which was then verified so he proceeded to advise the attendant on the correct positioning in order to keep the airways of the patient open. Once he was assured that the breathing of the patient was normal, EMD Fakhir advised the attendant to maintain and monitor the patient and call back on our emergency number if changes occurred in the patient’s condition.

Due to the effective counseling and professional handling of the call, the attendant called back on the emergency number requesting to connect with EMD Fakhir on observing that the patient’s condition was worsening. So EMD remained on-line with the caller till the crew arrived. In the meantime, the breathing was verified multiple times and assurance was done for the positioning that was advised. Soon after, the crew arrived and took charge of the patient. EMD Fakhir showed great responsibility and his efforts were really appreciated by the attendant.
