In Pakistan, girls suffer from huge disparity of opportunities to access the education at post primary level. The biggest barrier to girls' education is the long-distance schools in the absence of a local transport facility. Friends Welfare Association (FWA) proposes to provide a second School Van to School Management Committee (SMC) of Girls' Secondary School Meilbut as the one vehicle already provided to SMC Meilbut is now insufficient to provide service to 300 girls of the said school.
Girls' secondary school at junction of two (02) union councils Devli Jabar and Sacahan of district Mansehra Pakistan was established . Since the catchment population reside in scattered villages in the mountainous terrain, girls could not access the school. Owing to this need, in 2015, a School Van (Pickup) was provided, for daily pick and drop of the girls but as the enrollment of girls has now increased to 300 girls for pickup compared to 70 girls, this one vehicle is now insufficient.
Since the year of 2015, school management committee has efficiently managed the service of pick and drop for the girls of scattered villages. SMC has managed the fuel cost, Driver Salary and maintenance cost by raising a "Fund" through membership fee, mutual contribution and collecting minimal fee from the students. Now as the one Vehicle is insufficient, proposes the provision of a Second Vehicle (Toyota Hiace) for pick and drop service to include all girls to avoid their dropout.
Education is the biggest investment to secure the future of the girls and get them and their families out of the vicious cycle of poverty. The facility of School Van enabling the Pick and Drop Service will facilitate the 300 girls every year and this cycle will continues. Thus 300 girls every year will have socio- economic empowerment by getting jobs of teachers and nurses etc.
