Help Rebuild the Gulf of Mexico Barrier Reef

We are grateful for your continued support of our efforts to restore the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System. As of today, we have raised $5,425 USD of our $75,650 goal, thanks to the generosity of 12 donors.

Over the past few months, our team has been actively engaged in various restoration activities along the Yucatán Peninsula. These efforts include:

• Coral Re-Attachment: Reattaching broken coral fragments to encourage regrowth and enhance reef resilience.

• Monitoring and Data Collection: Gathering vital data on water quality, temperature, and biodiversity to inform restoration strategies.

• Community Outreach: Engaging local communities through educational programs to raise awareness about reef conservation and sustainable practices.

Looking ahead, we aim to expand our initiatives by:

• Establishing Coral Nurseries: Creating nurseries to cultivate coral fragments for future transplantation efforts.

• Enhancing Research: Conducting comprehensive studies to assess the health of the reef and identify areas requiring urgent attention.

• Strengthening Partnerships: Collaborating with local authorities and organizations to implement effective conservation policies.

More people, more problems: With more people, there's more trash and pollution, which can make the coral sick.
Storms and accidents: Hurricanes and even people accidentally bumping into the reefs can break them.

What's Being Done to Help?

This project is like a team of superheroes working to save the reefs! Here's what they're doing:

Research and Data: They're like detectives, gathering information to understand what's hurting the reefs and how to fix it.
Reef Repair: They're like builders, fixing broken parts of the reef by re-attaching coral pieces. This helps the reef grow back stronger.
Coral Nurseries: They are growing baby corals in safe places, and then planting them onto the reef.
Helping the Community: They're working with local people to teach them how to protect the reefs and make sure they stay healthy.
Creating protected areas: They are working to create areas where fishing is not allowed, so that the fish can grow and thrive.
