CLC Updates
DEPDC’s Community Learning Centre (CLC) was created in 2005 to provide human rights education, as well as computer, literacy, and life skills training in Thai and English for undocumented migrants, refugees, ethnic minorities, and other community members living in Mae Sai. The centre is open to community members who are at-risk of being sold into the commercial sex industry and who may not have the means to afford outside tutors. Due to a shortage in both monetary support and human resources, CLC is currently limited to offering English language and life skills classes mainly led by our passionate team of international volunteers.
With the school year starting up only around two weeks, DEPDC has been bustling with activity in preparation for classes, workshops, and special field trips, among other things listed on the packed agenda. Monday through Thursday nights, CLC convenes at the centre. The interactive lessons at CLC cover a range of grammar and vocabulary topics, as well as encourage student participation and collaboration. The lessons include vocabulary review on topics like greetings and farewells, school activities, and food, as well as vowel and consonant and noun and verb differentiation. CLC students are tested twice a week to ensure they comprehend the information taught during the lessons and to highlight the areas in which they excel and in which they require more practice. Through intensive, personalized training, CLC aims to provide students with useful skills they can apply beyond the classroom setting.
Thank You for Your Continued Support!
CLC is still looking to recruit volunteers to teach English language and life skills classes! On behalf of all the children, teachers, and volunteers at DEPDC, I would like to say thank you for your generous support of our mission.
