Help improve the working conditions of a tree nursery for women and high school students in Costa Rica. Urgent changes are needed in the infrastructure so workers and high school students are not exposed to high heat (104F) and humidity in the nursery which can produce up to 175,000 trees for treforestation projects in the area. Sanitary conditions will be improved, and a storage area created also.
Our nursery has been growing to affront the need for trees in our area, but as a ONG we are short of funding to make urgent improvements such as a cooler work area (people are working at 104 farenheight), sanitary facilities and a storage area.
The project will build a small building using local materials with an open area for good ventilation, a bathroom, and a storage area. Workers and volunteers will no longer have to work in very hot and humid areas. We are located in a High School facility where students can do their professional practice, and learn how to produce trees but with such conditions it is impossible to ask them to work with us. Often vounteers from the community offer to help, but desist because of the heat.
ASIREA produces at least 175,00 trees a year, that are for up to 200 families. We expect to be able to raise the amount and quality of trees with better working conditions. In turn, we can offer more and a larger variety of species with better infrastructure. Students who wish to learn how to produce trees and volunteers will be willing to help at the nursery.
