Dear Donor,
Because of your generous support, from January to March 2026, 137 people at greater risk of acquiring HIV in El Salvador received discreet, high-quality, and confidential HIV prevention services. Each participant received a rapid HIV test, counseling, medical follow-up, laboratory screening, and access to pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), allowing them to protect their health through a prevention pathway designed to fit their real-life needs.
To reach people who often face barriers such as demanding work schedules, limited clinic availability, or concerns about privacy, PASMO offered flexible appointment options through weekday and weekend service events, supported by targeted digital outreach and direct communication through trusted community networks. This approach allowed individuals to access prevention services at times that worked for them, without compromising confidentiality, quality, or dignity.
One story that powerfully reflects the impact of this project is that of a 20-year-old young man from Usulután, located more than 117 kilometers (73 miles) from San Salvador, who traveled over two and a half hours to access PASMO’s prevention services. What motivated him to make this journey was not only access to medication, but the trust he felt in PASMO’s work, the personalized attention, and the direct, respectful connection established with each user. His experience reminds us that when services are delivered with professionalism, confidentiality, and genuine human connection, people are willing to overcome significant barriers, even long distances, to protect their health.
Your support is not only helping people start prevention, it is helping them stay protected. Through this project, PASMO is strengthening an innovative and sustainable social marketing model that helps ensure these essential services remain available to users, even during interruptions in global aid or other unexpected disruptions. Since the project began, 265 people have initiated PrEP, and 96 have already returned for follow-up services, demonstrating growing trust, continuity of care, and a long-term commitment to protecting their health. Thank you for making this possible. Your generosity continues changing lives across El Salvador.
Sincerely,
The PASMO team in Central America
