Over 60% of wildlife in Kenya resides in community-owned and private lands. This close proximity leads to conflict because of competition for water, and shrinking grazing and farmlands. This project builds on proven solutions: solar-powered fencing to protect schools, farms, & health centers, providing clean water through boreholes and desalination, and training women and youth in nature-based enterprises, empowering families and fostering harmony between people & wildlife.
Rapid population growth, climate change, shrinking wildlife habitats, and land use changes have intensified human-wildlife conflict. In a region teeming with elephants, their migration in search of food and water increasingly brings them into contact with people, posing risks to lives, property, and livelihoods. Elephants frequently invade farms, schools, and health centers, destroying crops, damaging infrastructure, disrupting learning and health services, and at times injuring people.
Your donation will help install solar-powered fences around schools and health centers, protecting learners and infrastructure from elephant intrusions. Your support will fund the drilling and equipping of solar-powered boreholes as well as the construction of underground water tanks, minimizing damage caused by elephants in search of water. Your donation will empower women and youth groups to start nature-based enterprises to boost income.
Human-wildlife conflict reduced by 70%, protecting 2,000+ people and thousands of elephants. Clean water access for over 7,000 residents, reducing health risks and improving resilience. 500 women and youth economically empowered, creating ripple effects in household income and wellbeing. 3,000 girls stay in school and become agents of change in their communities. Greater community participation in conservation, fostering a stronger local conservation ethic.
