On December 27th, Gabe arrived at our NICU weighing 1 pound 15 ounces. He was born with multiple limb deformities from a condition known as amniotic banding. He required a little supplemental oxygen when he was feeding, but was otherwise adapting well. Due to the exposed wound site on his leg, Gabe developed an unavoidable infection which created many problems for his tiny body. He began having frequent apneas (periods of complete absence of respiration) and periods of unresponsiveness. He required respiratory resuscitation five times over three days and received additional medication to stimulate his breathing. In addition to this he was given five blood transfusions to correct his hemoglobin and improve his overall condition. Gabe was treated with antibiotics for a few weeks which ultimately cleared him of infection.
Now Gabe is thriving in our NICU. He is gaining weight with no issues and feeding incredibly well. Today he weighs 3 pounds 7 ounces and continues to get stronger every day. Gabe has already faced many challenges in his short life, but continues to defy the odds. Please help us pray that he will continue to grow and remain healthy.
Gabe’s story is a testament to the power of prayer and the hard work of our NICU staff. With your contribution, you are helping provide critical care for babies like Gabe.
