Summary

"Save the Children intervened in my life when I was eight years old to remove me from an abusive situation. This experience sensitized and motivated me to work toward improving children's lives. For 13 years, I have been advocating for children's rights through legislative reform, particularly in education. I believe participating in the Bologna Symposium will enable me to expand my knowledge, skills, and network to uniquely address the concerns of vulnerable children in Pakistan." -Prem

Challenge

Many children in Pakistan, especially girls, lack access to health care, education, and protection from abuse. Prem, an Atlas Corps alumnus and the Founder and CEO of Child Rise, an organization that promotes education in conflict-affected areas in Pakistan, works tirelessly to advance the rights of children in Pakistan. Peacebuilders like Prem need to be equipped with the best skills and knowledge to address conflict-related challenges and be connected to a global community of practitioners.

Solution

The Bologna Symposium on Conflict Prevention, Resolution, and Reconciliation provides practical training in mediation, negotiation, facilitation, conflict prevention, reconciliation and social entrepreneurship - enabling participants to engage with global leaders in these areas. The knowledge, skills and contacts gained in Bologna will be of great value to Prem when improving access to education and working for other legislative reforms benefiting conflict-affected children in Pakistan.

Long-Term Impact

Through his organization, Child Rise, Prem will directly impact the lives of vulnerable children in Pakistan. By building on the knowledge, skills and contact gained in Bologna and by passing them on to others, Prem can significantly contribute to increasing access to education and improving other areas of legislative reform for children in Pakistan.
