August 2024 Update: Cholera in Haiti

By Aicha Belabbes | Annual Giving Coordinator

On behalf of all our staff and patients, thank you for your generous giving to Partners In Health! We are so grateful for your partnership.

Cholera is still in Haiti and we are still seeing cases in our sites. While in some sites, cases are down; in other sites, cases are climbing. In order to help contain the lasting outbreak and to keep cholera from spreading, we need your continuous support.

Despite the unprecedented challenges facing the Haitian people, many of our Zanmi Lasante (ZL), as PIH is known is Haiti, colleagues are feeling cautiously optimistic. The current situation is marginally less chaotic compared to the spring. Unfortunately, gangs continue to spread violence while obstructing the movement of food, fuel, and medical supplies.
We are fortunate to share that all our patients and staff at our sites are safe; safety will remain as usual our top priority.

ZL has found many innovative ways to continue to provide high quality care, strengthening partnerships with international and local organizations to mobilize resources and obtain logistical support. All services are now operational across the ZL network. However, the logistical situation remains delicate, and ZL is committed to managing resources with the utmost care until supply chains are fully restored. This includes prioritizing essential care, strategic reallocation of staff, and meticulous management of inventory and supplies. An ever evolving contingency plan is in place to respond quickly to changes in the security situation.

Our Zanmi Lasante colleagues are still heroically saving lives, accompanying patients, and providing training to medical students to strengthen the public health system of Haiti.

Your transformative gift could not have come at a more important time for PIH. Our community is in need of more care than ever. On behalf of our staff and patients in 11 countries worldwide, thank you for choosing to support Partners In Health!

 In Solidarity,

Partners In Health
