Dear Friends,
On behalf of all our staff and patients, thank you for your generous giving to Partners In Health! We are so grateful for your partnership.
In 2024, the number of new patients with acute cholera diarrhea decreased significantly. In 2024, the average monthly number is 289 cholera patients.
In the Zanmi Lasante (as Partners In Health is known in Haiti) healthcare network, the most recent cholera outbreak was in November 2024, in Thomonde. During November 2024, 135 patients were treated for acute choleriform diarrhea. The number of patients decreased progressively during the first week of December. Since December 11, there have been no new cholera patients of this outbreak in Thomonde. To achieve this, we repaired and used the cholera facility of Thomonde, we trained new staff members and used the existing resources in the ZL healthcare network.
While the treatment of cholera has been a success story in Haiti, the country is grappling with severe political instability, escalating violence, and a deepening humanitarian crisis. We are all witnessing an unprecedented time of uncertainty and fear.
Weare increasingly concerned by the escalation in violence and instability that has unfolded across Haiti in recent weeks and days. Though the situation is challenging, our extraordinary staff continue to show up, serving as an antidote to despair for our patients and communities by providing lifesaving care and support.
The logistical situation remains delicate in this unstable situation, and ZL is committed to managing resources with the utmost care until supply chains are fully restored. This includes prioritizing essential care, strategic reallocation of staff, and meticulous management of inventory and supplies. An ever-evolving contingency plan is in place to respond quickly to changes in the security situation.
Our Zanmi Lasante colleagues are still heroically saving lives, accompanying patients, and providing training to medical students to strengthen the public health system of Haiti.
Your gift could not have come at a more important time for PIH. Our community is in need of more care than ever. On behalf of our staff and patients in 11 countries worldwide, thank you for choosing to support Partners In Health!
In Solidarity,
Partners In Health
