Slow progress - but activities are proceeding well

OYO's first inclusive dance piece 'Hear Me'

As you know, the Ombetja Yehinga Organisation (OYO) is a Namibian NGO that uses Arts to create social awareness.

End of 2023, we started a campaign to try and raise fund for a much-needed car. If you know us, you know we work tirelessly to reach young people, especially in remote area. However, to be able to reach students in school or young people in the field, we need transport.

2025 has been a difficult year for us – as we lost over 40% of our funding when two contracts with institutions receiving USAID-funds got canceled. 2026 however is off to a better start. We have been extremely busy since the beginning, having projects on Gender-Based Violence, on Teenage pregnancy and an exciting project looking at inclusive education, thanks to which we had created our first inclusive dance piece.

While this is great news, it means that transport is more than ever vital. As you know, we could buy one Isuzu, our only car, in 2024 by taking a loan. It means that every month we need to secure Euro 500 to repay the loan. This is not an easy task.

Our two quantums have celebrated 10 years and reached 300,000km. While we hold onto them, we know that sooner or later we will face another challenge. Since we cannot find a partner to buy us a vehicle, we are considering selling one and taking a second loan – of course this is risky…

We will keep this page opened for as long as it takes to pay for the new car – the loan is for 5 years. If you know anybody who can support us, please do share with them. We still struggle with transport, but we are grateful for the support we receive. In those times of uncertainty, we know that every donation is precious. Every cent helps, and we appreciate all donations equally. We do appreciate you.

Together, we know we can make a difference.

With many thanks and warmest regards

Philippe
