Khadarlis Global plans to provide a local clinic in Sierra Leone with 15 Sanitary "Clean Birth Kits" to prevent infection in newborns and new mothers and reduce the 1 in 8 infant mortality rate in the country.
Sierra Leone's infant mortality rate is among the highest in the world. The Jimmi Village Clinic serves over 9000 people in 22 villages in Bo District and works hard to combat health issues affecting newborns and mothers. However, even with support from the Ministry of Health and the WHO there is not enough supplies. We want to send 15 Clean Birth Kits from the company Maternova to prevent infections and complications newborns and mothers for 1500 births over several years.
With tools to cleanly cut the umbilical cord, provide a sterile surface, a scalpel, and a pouch to hold the tools, each Kit will be vital to health care workers. They will have sanitary, yet disposable equipment and tools to prevent infection and clean delivery of children which would can not always be ensured with a lack of medical supplies.
The clinic is currently responsible for over almost 600 childbirths per year. With the addition of these kits, a combined 1500 uses, would prevent infection and provide enough supplies to have stable delivery environment for over two years of use.
